Xing Fu Tang earned its global reputation on one thing: the hand-stirred brown sugar boba drink, made with fresh-cooked pearls stirred with brown sugar syrup in front of you. The Taipei-based chain opened its Pleasant Hill Road location with that theater fully intact — the pearls are boiled to order, the stirring is audible, the stripes of caramelized sugar climb the walls of the cup as the drink gets shaken. If you've only had boba where the pearls come out of a tub that's been sitting around, the difference is not subtle.

The signature order is the Brown Sugar Boba Fresh Milk, served warm or iced — no tea base, just milk, brown sugar, and pearls that taste like they were made ten minutes ago because they were. Beyond the brown sugar line, the rest of the menu runs through the expected Taiwanese repertoire: oolong milk teas, fruit teas, cheese foam floats. Customization is standard. Pricing is slightly above the Buford Highway average, and the extra dollar or two is legitimately going into the pearls.

The space is compact and busy. Weekend lines snake; on weekdays the flow is manageable. The Pleasant Hill corridor in Duluth has become Atlanta's destination tier of boba (Chicha San Chen and Tiger Sugar are in the same few blocks), so a "Pleasant Hill boba crawl" is a real thing Atlanta tea enthusiasts actually do.

Practical notes: Hours and menu details live at xingfutangga.com. Online ordering is available when the line is long. Order the boba no-ice on a cold day — the hot version with warm pearls is the best version of this drink.
