What Atl Tea Is

Atl Tea is an independent, editor-led guide to Atlanta's tea scene — the teahouses, boba shops, afternoon tea parlors, matcha bars, gong fu teahouses, and ceremony spaces that make this city worth exploring one cup at a time.

Every spot on this site has been visited in person before being written about. We write in the voice of someone telling a friend where to go, not a food critic handing out stars. No sponsored placements, no aggregated ratings, no filler listicles.

Why This Exists

Atlanta has over 50 tea venues across boba, loose leaf, afternoon tea, herbal/wellness, matcha, chai, and traditional ceremonies — yet most people can't find them. Yelp and Google Maps lump tea in with restaurants. Blog listicles age badly and list the same five hotel teas. Destination Tea covers only afternoon tea. Every crowdsourced tea map the internet has tried has eventually gone stale.

We think Atlanta's tea community — the Black-owned tea companies on the BeltLine, the Taiwanese boba institutions on Buford Highway, the gong fu teahouse on the Westside, the wellness-focused shops in the suburbs — deserves better coverage than that. So we built the thing we wished existed.

Editorial Standards

We visit before we write. A spot appears on Atl Tea only if an editor has been there in person.

We verify every detail. Addresses are geocoded against authoritative sources (the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder for U.S. locations), not estimated from a neighborhood. Instagram handles are verified against the business's own website — never inferred from the business name. Phone numbers, hours, and reservation policies are confirmed at the source. Multi-location brands get a separate verification pass so the data reflects this storefront, not a sibling.

We date everything. Every spot page carries a "last verified" date so you know when the information was last confirmed. If you see something wrong or out of date, tell us on Instagram and we'll fix it.

Closures and relocations are flagged, not hidden. When a venue closes or moves, we mark its status rather than quietly removing the page — because "is this place still open?" is one of the most common questions people have, and silently deleting the page doesn't answer it.

How Spots Are Selected

A spot makes it onto Atl Tea if the editor would personally recommend it to a friend who asked. We cover the full tea spectrum — $5 boba, $95 afternoon tea, dedicated teahouses, matcha-only cafés, wellness-focused herbal shops — and explicitly skip chains, tea-adjacent places that happen to serve tea, and anywhere we wouldn't actually send someone.

Featured coverage is never paid. If you see a spot prominently placed, it's editorial judgment, not sponsorship.

Who's Behind Atl Tea

Atl Tea is an independent project based in Atlanta, Georgia. It's modeled on Atlanta Coffee Shops — a long-running, editor-led guide that grew from the same curator-driven principles applied to the coffee scene.

If you run a tea business in Atlanta, want to flag a closure or a new opening, or just want to say hello: Instagram is the fastest way to reach us.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't accept payment for listings or coverage. Ever.
  • We don't run aggregated star ratings. Stars from people who've never had gong fu cha aren't useful.
  • We don't list chains. Independent and locally-owned shops only.
  • We don't sell your data. There's nothing to sell — we don't collect any.
